Santiago de Veraguas (Panama) – After finishing first in Pool A, Canada dropped its opening second round game to fourth seeded Australia Tuesday.
Australia’s Ryan Searle (a Chicago Cubs prospect) shut out Canada 7-0. Left fielder Tim Kennelly got three hits, including a double and a solo homer as
Australia wasted no time getting on the scoreboard.
Fruitvale’s Chris Kissock did not see action in the loss that saw Canada send out five pitchers to combat the Aussie attack.
Left hander Mark Hardy took the mound in the top of the fifth after starter Nick Bucci and Scott Richmond got pounded for five runs. He fared no better as the Aussies would score one more run in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Canada reached third only one time and managed only three hits. Canada plays South Korea today at 7:30 p.m.
