With less than six minutes remaining, the 100 Mile House Wranglers spoiled the Beaver Valley Nitehawks home opener with a 4-3 victory on Saturday night at the Beaver Valley Arena.
Devan Suidy banged in a rebound off a blocked shot with 5:39 remaining in the third period to give the Wranglers their second win in as many nights. Forward Nick Headrick skated into the Nitehawks zone wheeled around the net and sent a pass to point man Michael Lynch. His slap shot caromed off the Hawks d-man right to Suidy who slid it into the open net under a sprawling Drake Poirier.
The Wranglers, in their second season in the KIJHL, beat Grand Forks 4-2 on Friday, and find themselves on top of the Doug Birks division of the Okangan-Shuswap Conference, while the Nitehawks are winless in their first two outings, tying the Nelson Leafs 3-3 on Friday.
The Hawks took a 3-1 lead in the second period on goals from Zach Bennett, McCoy Hauk, and Taylor Stafford, but the Wranglers would storm back on markers from Lynch at 4:39 in the second and Lane Van de Wetering to tie it 30 seconds into the third.
The Nitehawks outshot the Wranglers 40-31 but was stymied by goaltender Kristian Stead, particularly in the final minute when the Hawks pulled their goalie for the extra attacker.
The Nitehawks next home game goes Tuesday when they host the Castlegar Rebels
