Greater Trail bowlers rose to the top of the provincial five-pin ranks in separate tournaments last week.
At the B.C. Five-pin provincial open championship in Nanaimo, Warfield’s Darren Rich and his Kootenay-Okanagan Zone-5 team rolled their way to victory with a decisive 7-1 victory over Zone 3.
The team made up of Rich, Stu Ryan, Matt Eisenhauer, Dave Gourley, Mike Eider and Larry Richet advance to the nationals in St. John’s, Nfld. from May 30 to June 2.
At the Youth Doubles provincial finals at the Grandview Lanes in Vancouver, Trail’s Glenmerry Bowl doubles’ team comprised of Devon Fulton and Joshua Mack won the senior division with a commanding win over Vernon’s Lincoln Lanes duo.
The event is a doubles beat-your-average tournament. The team that advances is the one that bowls the most pins over a previously established league average, referred to as a high-low doubles tournament.
The Trail tandem pitched a combined score of 1,640 for the win, 164 pins over their 1,476 average, while Vernon managed a plus-120 score.
In the Junior division, Beaver Valley Lanes’ duo of Jenica Bouliane and Tyler Dier captured silver, two pins short of the gold-medal winners from Copperhill Lanes in Princeton. In four games, the B.V. Lanes duo bowled an incredible 287 pins over their average to Princeton’s 289.
In the Bantam division Jordan Bakken and Tyson Nelson of Beaver Valley Lanes just missed a podium finish, coming fourth with plus-121, two points shy of Princeton’s plus-123.
