The Beaver Valley Nitehawks will return to the Hawks’ Nest for Game 5 on Friday.

Beaver Valley captain Kaleb Percival scored the overtime winner on the power play in a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Fernie Ghostriders in the best-of-7 Kootenay Conference finals.

Facing elimination, Percival fired a high shot from the left wall that beat Fernie Ghostriders goalie Levi Hall 3:37 into the extra frame in the must-win Game 4 match up. Percival leads all Nitehawks in playoff scoring, tallying his second goal and 13th point, while Adam Redding (6G, 6A), Nimmo (5G, 7A) and Clement (4G, 8A) all have 12 playoff points.

Fernie leads the series 3-1 in what was the second straight 3-2 overtime result, this time in the Nitehawks favour.

Tim Josza opened the scoring for B.V. 13:04 into the first period picking the bottom corner on a nice setup out front from Adam Redding. However, 1:37 later Hudson Scrimshaw jumped on a loose puck on a turnover behind the Nitehawks net and beat B.V. goalie Connor Stojan to tie it at one.

Fernie took the lead 76 seconds into the middle frame on a Kyler Watson tally, but Lohgan Nimmo notched his fifth of the playoffs with a power play goal from the point with 1:23 to go in the second.

A scoreless third period forced the extra frame, with Stojan backstopping the Hawks to the win with 41 saves, and Hall making 34 in the Fernie goal.

The puck drop for Game 5 of the Nitehawks-Ghostriders series goes at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 29 at the Beaver Valley Arena. Game 6 is scheduled for Fernie on Saturday, and Game 7 back at the B.V. Arena on Monday, April 1.

In the Okanagan-Shuswap Conference final, the Revelstoke Grizzlies took a 3-1 series lead with a 4-2 victory over the Princeton Posse on Wednesday.

The two winning conference teams will meet in the KIJHL Teck Cup final series.
