It was a tough weekend for the Trail U18 Orioles as they dropped all four games to the Chilliwack Cougars in College Prep League baseball action.
The Cougars roared to 10-2 and 11-0 victories in the opening two games Saturday and continued their torrid pace throughout the weekend.
In Sunday’s first match, Trail scored two runs in the top of the second to tie it at two, but the Cougars erupted for six runs in the bottom half of the inning for a commanding 8-2 lead. Owen Dickson had two hits in the game for Trail.
The O’s managed only two hits in the second half of the double header as the Cougars pitcher threw five innings of shutout ball in the 11-0 victory.
On Sunday, Chilliwack led just 4-2 after four innings, but pounded the ball scoring four runs in each the fifth and sixth innings for the 12-2 final. Julien Knelson went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Trail managed to get their bats working in the second half of the doubleheader, rallying with five runs in the top of the seventh, but just came up short in a 12-10 loss. Dickson had two hits and scored twice, while Knelsen went 1-for-2, with two walks and two RBIs.
The Orioles are off this weekend but back in action next week when they host a four-game set against the Kelowna COMBA Sun Devils.
COMBA currently sits in third place in the College Prep League with a 9-7 record. The Sun Devils are coming off a split with North Fraser on Sunday, winning the opening match 4-2 before falling 1-0 in the second half of the doubleheader.
The games will go at Jason Bay Field at Butler Park at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 27-28.
