Four local players headed to U17 BC Cup

Four Greater Trail hockey players will join some of the best 16-year-old players in the province for BC Hockey’s annual U17 BC Cup.

This year’s BC Cup will be held in Salmon Arm from May 11 to 15 and feature 120 players divided into six teams in a jamboree-style format.

Trail’s Jake Lucchini, Craig Martin, Scott Davidson and Luke Bertolucci of Montrose were selected from a zone camp held in Invermere at the beginning of April.

Other players invited included Nelson native and Trail Smoke Eater prospect Dryden Hunt.

There are no zone teams, players are divided into separate teams for the tournament.

At the conclusion, 23 players will be selected to attend the U17 Regional Camp in July. They will join 23 players from Alberta to help form the Pacific Region’s roster for the World U17 Challenge at Christmas. The final roster will include 11 players from B.C. and 11 from Alberta.

The team will compete in the international tournament that includes teams from the U.S., Russia, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Finland.
