Golf: Fairways still fair

Area golf courses will continue operating in full swing through the Thanksgiving weekend and beyond.

Despite the late season and frosty mornings, area golf courses will continue operating in full swing through the Thanksgiving weekend and beyond.

Trail’s Rossland-Trail Country Club at Birchbank look to keep the fairways open until Oct. 31, and are offering some great deals to entice local duffers. Golfers can take advantage of 18 holes and a seat in a cart, after 1 p.m., for only $30; and this weekend, the pros shop offers up a Gobble Gobble sale with all clothing going on sale for 40-50 percent off.

“It’s in great condition right now for being fall,” said Birchbank’s CPGA Pro, Dennis Bradley. “We have a little frost in the morning but the greens are great. Greg (Kennedy) punched them about a month ago, he’s picking up the leaves daily, so everything looks awesome.”

Meanwhile, the Redstone Resort Golf Club, which usually closes after the Thanksgiving weekend, will be open for an additional week most likely until Oct. 14 and is offering new discounted fall rates: $45 for 18 holes, or $25 for nine.

Champion Lakes plans to stay open until the 31st of October as well, says club pro Kevin Nesbitt.

“The course is in incredible shape,” says Nesbitt. “With all the work the grounds crew has done, it’s probably playing as well as it has all year.”

The Salmo Golf Club too is in top shape, and the clubhouse will stay in operation until Oct. 21, after that it’s the honour system.
