KIJHL: Hawks camp takes flight

Close to 70 skaters and eight goalies from ages 14 to 20 hit the ice for a series of workouts and scrimmages this week. The players were split into four different teams, practicing for the first two days, Monday and Tuesday, of camp before beginning a round-robin mini-series Tuesday evening.

The Hawks training camp culminates with the final of the mini-series between the four squads at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, and a first glimpse at the final roster with the Blue vs White game Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Returning players include Archie McKinnon, Russell Mortlock, Walker Sidoni, Taylor Stafford, Danny Vlanich, Ryan Edwards, Fraser Stang, Jacob Boyczuk, and Keanan Patershuk.

The Hawks begin a round of exhibition games in Creston Friday, followed by split squad game in Nelson Saturday. They play exhibition games in Nelson Tuesday, Creston Wednesday, before hosting their first exhibition match against Castlegar Rebels Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the B.V. Arena and again on Sept. 8 versus Nelson at 6 p.m.

The Nitehawks first regular season game goes Sept. 13 in Spokane.
