The KSYSA Select U15 Boys Big Horns soccer team won gold at the Terry Walgren Soccer tournament in Nelson on the weekend.

With no other U15 teams entered, the Big Horns coached by Neil Moon were bumped up into the older U16 Division.

But that did not discourage the stalwart 11. In the first match, the Big horns came out hard and downed the Creston U16 team 3-1.

However, under threatening skies the sheep faltered as the U16 Columbia Valley Team, accompanied by pounding rain and gale force winds, blew the Big Horns away 5-1.

Nevertheless, in the all-important semifinal match, the team bounced back, rattling horns with the Cranbrook U16 team and, behind strong goaltending and solid defence, shut them out 1-0.

It all came down to the tournament finale and another match against Columbia Valley. In a close back-and-forth game, the Big Horns avenged their earlier loss, beating Columbia Valley 2-1 to seize the gold medal.
