Limbert scores twice in Yale victory

Kevin Limbert scored two power play goals, including the eventual game winner as the Yale University Bulldogs captured the Eastern College Athletic Conference championship on Saturday in Atlantic City, N.J.

The 6-0 victory over the Cornell Big Red was the third consecutive shutout for Yale during the ECAC playoffs. The team defeated Colgate 4-0 in Friday’s semifinal.

Limbert scored three minutes into the game on Saturday then added his second with five minutes left in the opening frame to spot the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

Yale added four goals in the third to claim their second straight ECAC crown.

The win sends Yale into the 2011 NCAA hockey tournament as the top seed in the East Region.

Yale will face Air Force in Bridgeport, Conn., on Friday. The winner faces the survivor of the Union-Minnesota-Duluth matchup with the champion advancing to the Frozen Four, which begin April 7 in St. Paul, Minn.
