The Beaver Valley May Days organizers have its recruiters on the lookout for Greater Trail’s best street hockey players.

The Kootenay Savings 3-on-3 Street Hockey Challenge invites players from ages 10-and-up to enter their best collection of five players, (four and a goalie), for the May 25 event.

Teams will vie for the coveted Challenge Cup in each division, and will play a minimum of three games in a round-robin playoff format.

Last year, a youthful Ruskie team with a giant of a goalie stopped an eminently skilled, but aging and injured Beaver Lodge Bombers squad from winning the inaugural Challenge.

“This year’s Challenge should be even more interesting but it all depends on the number of teams that sign up,” said organizer Derek Chartres. “Participation is key to something like this. The sponsors have genererously donated prizes and funds to make it a success, now we just need the players to step up and come out.”

With the emphasis on fun, the Challenge is loosely comprised of three divisions including a Junior, Intermediate, and Open division.

Players U18 are required to wear helmets and goalie gear is mandatory for each team. Games will be played at the Fruitvale Elementary School multi-purpose courts with a $50 entry fee per team.

Pick up registration forms at Gerick Cycle or email Derek on gowrie7@yahoo.com for an electronic form.

Registration deadline is May 13.
