Midget Ice face off at Cominco Arena

The Major Midget Kootenay Ice will be hosting a pair of contests at the Trail Memorial Centre this weekend.

The team plays two games against the Vancouver NE Chiefs who sit in fourth place in the 11-team B.C. Major Midget League.

The Ice have been particularly cold this year, with only one win in their first 10 games and are hoping a little home support could help them heat up and turn the season around.

Last week they were routed by South Island Thunderbirds 9-2 on Friday before dropping a close 5-2 decision to the same team Saturday.

Trail’s Jake Lucchini leads the Ice in scoring with seven goals and five assists for 12 points and is among the leagues’ top-20 point getters.

In addition to Lucchini, this year’s Kootenay squad includes Fruitvale’s Mitch Foyle, and Kyle Hope and Riley Brandt from Trail.

The Ice face off against the Chiefs Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 9:45 a.m. at the Cominco Arena.
