Rossland’s Ben Gresley-Jones got off to a wet but flying start as he joined 150 other golfers in the hunt for the B.C. Amateur Golf title this week at the Dunes Golf Course in Kamloops.

In the first round of the 109th BC Amateur Championship on Tuesday, Gresley-Jones fired a one-under-par 71 .

After parring the first two holes, Gresley-Jones birdied the next three to go to 3-under-par. But he gave two back on holes seven and eight and went birdie, bogie on the back nine to finish 1-under, good for 22nd spot - five back of leader Jeremy Osborne of Salmon Arm.

Osborne fired a 6-under 66 to take the first round lead but was caught by Victoria’s Craig Doell on Wednesday. Doell shot a 6-under 66 to sit atop the leader board tied with Osborne at 7-under-par.

With half the field including Gresley-Jones playing Wednesday afternoon, all second-round results were not available by press time.

Nelson’s Granite Pointe golfer Josh Coletti finished the first round 2-over and sat tied for 64th.  Both Jordan Melanson of Nelson and Adam Pangburn of Kaslo shot 75 good for 80th spot.

The top 70 will make the cut.
