Six Rossland-Trail Minor Hockey Association players have been selected to attend the 2011 BC Hockey’s Male U16 BC Cup in Kamloops at the end of the month.

The players were picked following a weekend camp in Nelson that attracted players from the East and West Kootenay.

Twenty players emerged from the camp including Rossland-Trail’s Drake Poirier, Kyle Hope, Johnny Todd, Mitch Foyle, Riley Brandt and Nolan Handley.

The 20 Kootenay players will head to Kamloops to join 140 other players from across the province for the BC Cup. The tournament, from April 28 to May 2, will be a jamboree-style event, where the players will be mixed into eight teams.

At the conclusion of the tournament, 54 players will be invited to the U16 provincial camp held every July.

From there, Team BC will be selected to compete in the Western Branch Challenge.

Hosted by the Western Hockey League, the challenge pits the four western associations in a round robin tournament held in the fall of every non-Canada Winter Games year.

BC Hockey’s U17 program will hold its Kootenay camp this coming weekend in Invermere. The selected players will attend the U17 BC Cup set for Salmon Arm in May.
