On the strength of a couple of goals from Bryce Knapp and Braden Pears, the Trail Smoke Eaters skated to an 8-6 victory over the BCIHL's Selkirk College Saints Tuesday at the Cominco Arena.
The historic game marked the first exhibition match of the season, and the first game ever played between the two teams. It was a wide-open affair, but full of hard hits, and intensity, a good test for both teams. However, the Smokies youth and conditioning eventually wore down the Saints who made a spirited comeback to tie it 6-6 in the third before allowing two late goals, including the winner to defenceman Nathan Browne.
