Smoke Eaters defenceman commits to Waterloo

Trail Smoke Eaters defenceman Jordan Hendry has committed to the University of Waterloo.

Hendry, a four year BCHL and Trail Smoke Eaters veteran, has committed to attend the Waterloo, Ont. university and play for the Warriors next season.

“Jordan has been a staple amongst our defensive core for many years now,” said Smoke Eaters head coach and GM Tim Fragle in a release. “As an organization and a staff we are thrilled that Jordan can continue his hockey career along with combining his academics next season with the University of Waterloo.”

Hendry was named Trail’s assistant captain this season, and played in every one of its 54 games. In all, the Surrey product skated in 140 games as a Smoke Eaters, dating back to his BCHL debut as an affiliate player with Trail in 2018/19.

Hendry is one of the longest serving Smoke Eaters in team history, ranking fourth amongst defenceman in all-time games played

As a 20 year old, Hendry set a personal best for goals and points in a season, tallying five goals and 18 points from the blueline.

“I’m honoured and excited to join the Warriors and play for the University of Waterloo,” said Hendry. “My goal has always been to play hockey at the next level and pursue an education at a great school. I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches and the Trail Smoke Eaters organization for helping me achieve this goal.”

Hendry and the Smoke Eaters will open the 2022-23 BCHL playoffs against the Penticton Vees on Friday and Saturday in Penticton. The best-of-seven series will return to Trail for Games 3 and 4, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4-5 at 7 p.m. at the Trail Memorial Centre.
