This past week in the Kootenay Savings Super League saw Team Rob Ferguson squeak out a win over the ever improving Team Heather Nichol.
The Ladies forced Fergie to draw for one in the first and third, sandwiched around Skip Heathers nice hit-n-roll for two in the second. The teams traded singles in the fourth and fifth, before Team Ferguson took control of the game with steals totalling three points in the sixth and seventh ends. Team Nichol fought to the end, putting up a deuce in eight, falling just short, for a Team Ferguson 6-5 win.
A couple of unforced errors were Team Nathan Small’s undoing against Team Myron Nichol. After taking one in the first, Skip Nathan’s guard rock over-curled, giving Skip Myron an open hit for three. Nichol forced Team Small to take one in the third, then manufactured a deuce to lead 5-2 after four on their way to a 7-3 victory, and halting Small’s six game winning streak.
Team Bill van Yzerloo and Bedard Excavating, skipped by Deane Horning, started cautiously, with van Yzerloo taking one in the first followed by Horning blanking the second. The house was crowded in the third, when Skip Deane’s delicate last rock attempt through a port, hung, clipped one guard, slid off the backside of another, then raised van Yzerloo in for a steal of two. The teams traded points in four and five, and Skip Bill scored a single in six, then stole the seventh, when Horning’s quadruple raise take-out ended up second shot by an inch, sealing the 6-1 van Yzerloo win.
Team Darrin Albo and Team Bill King traded singles to start, then Albo stole the third with a great draw behind cover. Team King jumped back in the lead in the fourth, when Albo’s last rock was burnt, allowing Skip Bill an open hit for three. Team Albo responded with their own field goal in five, then held King to one in six, all knotted up at five. Skip Darrin made two perfect draws behind cover for a deuce in seven and ran Team King out of rocks in eight for a 7-5 win.
Super League goes Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Trail Curling Club.
