The Trail Men’s Basketball League (TMBL) is heading into its final weeks of the season, and with a tight race for top spot, the league title is like a loose ball up for grabs.
With three games left to play in the regular season, their is gridlock at the top of the standings.
Mota Automotive, Northport, and Castlegar Realty are all tied for first spot atop the TMBL with Rock Island one point behind.
Last year’s League Champs, Rossland’s Adrenalin Adventures, have only one win on the season however could just have easily been on the winning side of three ties.
“Any team can beat any team on any given night,” said league organizer and player Stephen Mota.
“You really look forward every week to a good matchup and good competition. There has been eight ties this year which is more than we’ve had in four years.”
Mota leads the league in scoring, averaging 22 points and seven assists per game while Rossland’s Wannes Luppens is the most accurate from the free-throw line, hitting 85 per cent of his shots and leads in rebounding with an average of 12 per game.
The five-team league play each other three times before heading into playoffs.
Fourth and fifth placed teams will play to determine the fourth team that advances to an elimination round where first plays fourth, second versus third place and the winners meet in the TMBL final scheduled for Mar. 7.
Catch TMBL action as it hits the hard court again tonight with Adrenalin Adventures taking on Mota Auto at 6:30 p.m. and Castlegar Realty tipping off with Northport at 7:45 p.m. at the J. L. Crowe gymnasium.
