The Trail Men’s Retiree Curling League was in full curl mode Monday as third Larry Martin brushes the rock of skip Dan Horan into the house while sweepers Wayne Weaver and Jerry Godfrey take a breather and Trail Mayor Dieter Bogs admires the shot in the background. The Trail Retirees club is the largest curling club in Trail with 14 teams but are still looking for interested curlers. The club throws rocks Mondays and Wednesdays at 1 p.m.

The top teams remained in play as they all won their games in Kootenay Savings Super League Curling at the Trail Curling Club Thursday.

The Rob Ferguson rink from Trail played a very solid game, and did not give Desiree Schmidt and her Ladies team many opportunities, as Ferguson topped Schmidt 7-3.

The match between Ken Fines and West Kootenay Mechanical’s Myron Nichol turned early, with the game tied at 1-1 and Fines holding the hammer, he had to draw against four Nichol stones, but his rock appeared to pick, allowing Nichol to steal four points, and go on to defeat Fines 12-3.

Fred Thomson and his 5-N Plus foursome from Nelson played a very aggressive game against Rose Beauchamp and her Maglio Ladies team. Thomson stole two separate three enders on his way to a convincing 9-3 victory.

Brad Morehouse and his young guns from Castlegar bounced back from the previous week’s loss, with a 8-4 win over Russ Beauchamp and his Maglio Men’s rink. Morehouse took control of this match early, building a 3-0 lead after two ends, forcing Beauchamp to try and play catch-up all night.

Kootenay Savings Super League play resumes Thursday night at the Trail Curling Club.

This week’s key match-up will see if the Rob Ferguson squad can avenge their only loss of the year, as they play Brad Morehouse.
