It will come down to the wire tonight in Trail Mens’ Retirees Curling as six teams vie for first place.

In last week’s action, Lefty Gould maintained his hold on top spot with a 9-4 win over the Wayne Wyton team.

Gould took three points in each the second and fourth ends and cruised to the win. If Lefty’s rink can continue their winning ways, they will seal a trip to the playoffs.

Primo Secco’s foursome drew against Tom Hall’s team, in a back-and-forth match for the first three ends.

However, the Hall rink put up four points in the fourth forcing the Secco rink into a more aggressive style of play. The Hall team held steady for three ends, and in the eighth end ran the Secco team out of rocks for a 9-5 win.

Jim Stewart’s team, also tied for first place going into Wednesday, played short handed with only three players.

After three close ends, Dan Horan’s team scored a big four ender in the fourth. The Stewart team, having only one sweeper, faded in the final ends and eventually ran out of rocks in the eighth. The final score, Horan 11 and Stewart 5.

Cliff Tyson’s team battled back against Robin Siddall’s team to take sole possession of second place.

The see-saw game had the Siddall rink up by two with hammer coming home. The Tyson rink needed rocks in play and some luck in the final end, and got both for the 8-7 win.

Coke Koyanagi was also shorthanded on Wednesday, and Cal McKerracker’s team looked to take advantage of that fact.

Locked in a tight game after three ends, with no rocks in play McKerracker decided to blank the fourth end and carry hammer into the fifth end.

That decision backfired as the Koyanagi rink stole two in the fifth, and one each in the sixth, and seventh, then running Cal’s team out of rocks in the eighth.

Of note: Larry Martin playing third for Coke, and throwing three rocks because they were shorthanded, had a spectacular game.
