Weir wins college event

Kate Weir began her collegiate golf season in winning fashion.

The Trail native, playing in her first event with Douglas College, captured women’s division of the Bear Mountain Collegiate Golf Tournament held March 26 and 27 in Victoria.

Weir carded rounds of 78 and 83 to finish the two-day tournament with a 161 total to claim the individual title by a four-stroke margin.

She also helped the Douglas College’s women’s team win the team title against teams from Calgary’s Mount Royal University, Edmonton’s Grant MacEwan College, the 2010 Alberta champions, and Vancouver Island University.

Weir, who was with the University of British Columbia team for two seasons, opted to switch schools last fall to concentrate on her education.

The college golf season runs in the fall.
