The West Kootenay ‘A’ Orioles split a double-header with Coeur d’Alene on Saturday, and will host Deer Park in Washington State American Legion Baseball (WSALB) action this weekend at Butler Park.
A pitching duel highlighted the opening match Saturday against the CdA Lumbermen, with a dominating performance from both starting rotations. However, the Lumbermen plated one in the fifth and that’s all they would need, riding their bullpen to a 1-0 victory over a single-A Orioles team that couldn’t get the bats going in the opening match.
However, the West Kootenay team saw the ball better in the nightcap as they charged to a 10-2 victory to bring their season record to 9-1.
The team’s early success has them in top spot in the Area 3 Central Division leading Ferris, Couer d’Alene, Selkirk, and Deer Park. A pair of wins this weekend would go a long way to securing a spot in the District Finals, and ultimately the WSALB State championships in Olympia, Wa. July 22-27.
This weekend’s double-header against Deer Park goes Saturday at 2 and 4 p.m. at Butler Park.
