The West Kootenay Zone 1 Junior golfers face one of their biggest early tests this weekend as they prepare for the two-round qualifying tournament for a berth in the provincial championships.
Golfers tee-off at the Castlegar Golf Course on Saturday and the Birchbank course on Sunday for a two-day combined total that will earn the top four automatic exemptions into the B.C. championship in Gibsons on July 10-12.
Two spots are also awarded on performance-based entry (PBE), determined by a golfer’s merits, other events played and prior commitment to B.C. development camps and high performance programs.
Jordan Hoodikoff of Christina Lake leads the junior tour with three victories and is a distinct favorite heading into the weekend along with Rossland-Trail Country Club’s Brenan Moroney and Tyler McKay. Braden McKay, Nolan Renwick and Garrett Underwood will also make a strong push.
