Members of the Colombo Lodge welcomed citizens to their second annual Piazza Day at the Piazza Colombo on Rossland Avenue. Plenty of food, music and fun entertained the people throughout the day.

Rossland resident Janet Slater decided to hit the Trail and District Public Library Thursday to kill time and stay out of the dreary weather that brought showers to the city in the afternoon.

The addition to Jubilee Park will display the city’s rendition of the Sissinghurst Castle Garden’s white garden – a 17-foot tall arbour covered in white roses.

Retired firefighter Munro Pickering and Rossland fire chief Gerry Woodhouse manned the pancakes on the flat top grill at the fire hall Saturday for Golden City Days’ annual pancake breakfast. Over $1,000 was raised for Kolby Zanier, a Rossland youth who awaits a heart transplant.

Rossland’s Golden City Days parade on Saturday included an appearance by Olympic skiing champion and Canadian senator Nancy Greene Raine.

Rossland Mayor Greg Granstrom was a hit with the kids and young at heart Saturday as he distributed candy along the Golden City Days parade route in Rossland.

The West Kootenay Toy Run brought about 500 motorcyclists to Trail Sunday afternoon in their annual campaign to brighten up Christmas for disadvantaged children while enjoying the sunshine and showing off their machines.

Sarina LaPointe, 22, took part in Selkirk College’s Orientation Day Tuesday at Jubilee Park in Trail, where those who attended were given the opportunity to meet instructors, take part in games and enjoy a barbecue. LaPointe is enrolled in the food service worker program, which teaches life and employment skills to those who are interested in the hospitality industry.

An uneasy feeling was matched with excitement for this year’s batch of Grade 8 students who settled into their new school Thursday during orientation day.
